The Hockey Equipment Certification Council (HECC) is a US based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been responsible for the certification of ice hockey head and face protection since 1973. The mission of HECC has always been to make the sport of ice hockey as safe as possible for all participants by supporting research that assists in increasing our understanding of injury mechanisms and injury prevention through the proper use of protective equipment.
HECC has recently published a certification program for neck laceration protectors and now wishes to move forward with the development of an effective standard for cut resistant clothing used in ice hockey.
As part of this effort, HECC is requesting proposals for research projects related to cut resistant clothing used in ice hockey. The purpose of this research project will be to investigate the appropriateness of existing national and international standards used to evaluate cut resistant products as well as the identification of specific ice hockey related factors which may influence the cut resistant properties of these products.
HECC invites you to send your proposal to the Chairman of the HECC Research Committee at . Proposals should include a Title, Main Body (including Significance, Specific Aims / Research Objectives, Background, Methods, Main Outcome Measures, Deliverables), References and a budget with a brief justification and projected time frame (maximum of one year) for completion. If human subjects are included in the research, an explanation of the Institutional Review Board (or similar office) process to be used must be provided. The Main Body of the proposal should not exceed six (6) pages. Please also submit with your proposal your curriculum vitae or NIH formatted biosketch. HECC allows a maximum of 10% institutional overhead included in the total award amount not to exceed $50,000. Proposals that request an amount in excess of the target award may be considered if a rationale to justify the proposed funding is provided.
All persons, institutions, and organizations residing in North America are eligible and invited to apply. All applications regardless of origin will be evaluated by the same strict scientific guidelines.
